Promoting Literacy & Second Chances
“Books Beyond Bars” is a literacy initiative by Delta Life Development Center, Inc. in partnership with the Georgia Department of Corrections Library Donation Program that is dedicated to expanding access to books in correctional facilities and promoting restorative justice through education.
Delta LDC is promoting the Joy of Reading within local communities. Discover the power of literacy, community, and shared resources by helping us bring Free Lending Book Boxes to your neighborhood. These small, outdoor libraries offer accessible books to all, and can make a lasting impact on families, children, and individuals across the area. Free Lending Book Boxes are small, weatherproof boxes placed in local neighborhoods that allow residents to borrow and share books. They operate on a simple principle: Take a book, leave a book. Whether you are looking for a good novel, children's stories, or educational resources, these boxes create a shared reading space for all ages.
Delta Life Development Center’s Financial Literacy Programs are designed to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and tools needed to build strong financial futures. Through workshops, community outreach, and educational resources, Delta LDC helps participants develop practical skills in budgeting, saving, credit awareness, financial planning, and economic decision-making. The programs support the organization’s mission of strengthening communities by promoting financial confidence, stability, and long-term empowerment for youth and adults alike.
In 1987, a group of strangers gathered in a San Francisco storefront to document the lives they feared history would neglect. Their goal was to create a memorial for those who had died of AIDS and to help people understand the devastating impact of the disease. Delta Life Development Center, Inc and the National AIDS Memorial have partnered together to assist our community with making quilt panels to add to the national quilt project and to bring the quilt display of the AIDS Memorial Quilt to DeKalb County, Georgia as part of the Community Display Program. Throughout the ongoing AIDS crisis, more than 700,000 lives have been lost in this country to HIV/AIDS. Today, HIV is on the rise, particularly among young people, communities of color, and in the Southern United States. Quilt displays are used to raise greater awareness about the story of AIDS, and prevention, treatments, and resources
available within the community.
